“For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.” Zechariah 2:8

THE APPLE OF HIS EYE
Rev. Dr. Winston Watson
Void, without form was the world that we know
Empty of God, without his glory, none to show
He moved, Jehovah moved over the deep
His desire: make a new world for his man to keep
His word he spoke, and brought the world into order
With a wave of his hand he made the universe and its border
The world was empty, created anew
Jehovah’s plan, in place, his creation was true
He saw his plan, unfolding by his word
But his heart yearned for fellowship, a close walk with his ward
He touched the earth, a man he did form
Breathed in him Life, his creation was born
A man with dominion, authority and might
To rule over his world, both day and night
The tempter did see and in envy beheld
God’s love for his man, his creation, the crown on his head
He tempted the creature, he tried man and won
Man lost his place, his fellowship was gone
But God in his wisdom, his power and might
Looked through the ages, and planned the tempters flight
From his bosom above, he sent his own son
To redeem mankind and preserve his plan
On Calvary, the nails pierced his innocent hand
The sword his side, a sinless lamb
To defend his virtue, to uphold God’s son
The angels were arrayed awaiting God’s command
He died with no word, He gave himself in pain
Why you may say? We were to gain
Angels and demons, ready to fight,
the battle lines drawn
The battle of the ages, determined tonight
But God stilled his army,
though ready to fight
His command he echoed, no, not tonight
His son entered the grave, his body so still,
no life in his flesh, we mortals did kill
But on a day, count it, it was three
God called from heaven, LET HIM BE FREE
He arose in all his glory, his divine presence appeared
In might, and in power, the conqueror was made
Now he is seated in glory at Jehovah’s right hand,
In majesty, having dominion over all this span
Lift up and praise him, for his amazing grace
Sending his son, to take our place
Praise his name o earth, sea and sky
Give honor to the king; declare his work to all who come by
Give honor to him, sing praises on high,
Angels adore him, but we are the apple of his eye
